Editor Types Explained (Classic, Inline, Balloon, Balloon Block, Document, Multi-root)

One editor, different flavors: a fixed toolbar, a floating one, a Google Docs layout, even four editable boxes on one page. A sub-10-minute tour of all six ready-made CKEditor editor types, how small the code difference between them really is, and a complete setup generated with CKEditor Builder.

What the video covers

The first episode of my 2026 product tutorial series: which of the six ready-made CKEditor editor types fits your use case, shown live with the actual integration code for each.

  • Classic - forms, CMS fields, comment boxes: the fixed-toolbar workhorse.
  • Inline - editing in place, right on the live page.
  • Balloon - short, focused writing like comments and chat.
  • Balloon block - articles and docs without a permanent toolbar.
  • Document (decoupled) - the word processor experience, built for print and PDF.
  • Multi-root - one content item, multiple editable regions, shared undo.

The closing section generates a complete setup with CKEditor Builder: pick a preset, adjust the features, copy the code.
